Program Data Report

My Block My Hood My City

This data report site contains data from My Block My Hood My City's program engagin schools around Chicago. This page contains three main sections to help provide context about the city and key metrics about the outcomes of the program.

The first visualization contains two maps - on the left, a reference map has data about CTA transit routes (bus and trains), gang boundaries - which can severely disrupt students ability to access their school, and various demographic data variables from the US Census, such as population and race ethnicity, median household income, and other measures. The default map shows gang boundaries and CTA train lines, and you can toggle on or off other layers by clicking the layers button (eye icon) on the top left of the map. The map on the right shows schools by number of participants in M3's programs, in addition to block club locations.

The second section contains statistics about the program outcomes measured on six main metrics: Confidence, Trust, Generosity, Belonging, Empathy, and Comfort. Pariticpants take before and after surveys and rate their perception across these metrics from one (low) to five (high). The average change in each metric is calculated and displayed in the statistics as a percent difference. The table below the summary statistics shows the individual participant data and their change in each metric; the values are averaged if the participant has submitted multiple beofre and after results.

Last, the final section shows the average change for each of the participating schools across the six metrics. Each change in this table is in absolute terms on the 5 point scale.
